The Don’ts to Extensions Care

5/5 stars (1 vote)

Please  understand that wearing a weave requires up keep, which  can get expensive. Once you decide to purchase high quality extensions do  not take risky short cuts to cut down on cost. Installing hair extensions is a technique that should only be done by licensed professionals. Now that you bought your hair and installed it properly, you’re not done with your hair care. Here’s what NOT to do while maintaining your weave.

  • Don’t sew in extensions without wearing a net.

The net is protection for your real hair.It provides a platform to sew  in the extensions.Once you begin to feel the infamous itch of a weave, the net does not allow for easy scratching,ripping, and pulling of your own hair, which is a good thing.

  • Don’t  wear your hair extensions longer than 2 months at a time.

Your extensions are sewn  to a net that is placed over your hair with a needle and thread. As time goes on, your hair grows out of your scalp.

After two months,braids begin to pull your new  growth  from your scalp and this can lead to alopecia. If you wear your extensions over the recommended two months, your hair is at risk. It will tangle and begin to thin or bald around your edges.This is extremely dangerous and
does not promote hair growth.
  • Don’t wash your hair without drying your braids after.
Have you ever got a whiff of a  funky weave? If you haven’t, it’s not pretty. If you wash  your extensions without drying your braids, your hair will mildew and you will loose friends.
  • Don’t take quality hair extensions for granted.
Dolling supplies human hair. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to put any products in your hair for maintenance.Just like your real hair, you must gently brush through your hair extensions daily, and add oils for straight/wavy textures and leave-in conditioners for curly textures.If you dye your hair, the maintenance is just as important as if it was your real hair.Human hair will split,get  dry, tangle and look bad if not maintained properly.Only small amounts  of product are needed at a  time and it takes little effort; however, maintenance must be done. Rule of thumb: treat
your extensions as you would your real hair.
